SEM Fire and Rescue

SEM specialise in the design, manufacture and service of special purpose emergency services vehicles for the Australian and export markets.

The origins of SEM Fire and Rescue date back over 50 years, when the business commenced operations as the vehicle manufacturing arm of the Victorian Country Fire Authority (CFA).

The CFA designed, built, modified and maintained its own vehicles at various sites from 1955, locating to the current site in Trewin Street Wendouree in 1982.

In 1996 a joint venture was formed between the CFA and the SKILLED Group to grow and expand the company’s operations and customer base. SKILLED acquired 100% of the business and later renamed the business to SEM Fire and Rescue (SEM).

In 2008 SEM was acquired from SKILLED by SEM Holdings Australia Pty Ltd – a small group of owners consisting of Turnberry Funds Management, Mike Fitzpatrick (Chairman of AFL, Board member of Rio Tinto amongst other activities) and Malcolm Flanagan (an experienced CEO and investor).

Since its CFA days, SEM has expanded the business to cover all areas of the Fire and Emergency Services market in Australia and some SE Asian and Oceania countries. SEM Holdings plans to continue the growth of SEM ensuring that it remains as the Australian leader at the forefront of technology, solutions and quality.
